Gray Bus Crane Positioning System for Three-Dimensional Tracking and Intelligent Scheduling
The Gray Bus Crane Positioning System is a non-contact absolute position detection solution engineered for overhead cranes, gantry cranes, and rail-mounted equipment in demanding industrial environments. It combines Gray-coded cable technology with wireless spread-spectrum communication, programmable control, vehicle-mounted terminals, and handheld PDA devices to deliver precise three-dimensional positioning, intelligent scheduling, and operational safety assurance.
Working principle and core advantages. The system operates on electromagnetic induction between a flat Gray-coded cable (the “Gray bus”) and an antenna box mounted on the moving crane. The cable’s internal address lines are cross-twisted according to Gray code logic, so adjacent position codes differ by only one bit—dramatically reducing error probability. The antenna box reads the absolute position along the cable without physical contact, eliminating wear, slippage, and cumulative error. No initial reference point or homing procedure is required after startup.
Positioning performance. Address detection resolution reaches 2 mm, with system positioning accuracy typically within ±5 mm. The antenna box maintains a non-contact gap of 30–300 mm from the Gray bus, tolerating vertical deviations of ±50 mm and lateral deviations of ±80 mm caused by uneven rails or wheel wear, while sustaining detection precision. The system supports both continuous and discontinuous position detection along travel paths ranging from hundreds of meters to over one kilometer.
Communication and integration. Wireless communication operates in the 5.8 GHz band with a bit error rate of 10⁻⁹ and a baud rate of 6 Mbps, ensuring reliable data transmission in electromagnetically noisy industrial settings. Standard industrial interfaces include RS485, Modbus, Profibus, Ethernet (TCP/IP), and SSI, enabling direct integration with PLC, DCS, and plant-level management systems. Vehicle-mounted terminals and handheld PDAs provide real-time position visualization for operators and supervisors.
Environmental durability. The Gray-coded cable operates across -50°C to +180°C, and the antenna box across -50°C to +95°C (model-dependent). Both are rated IP67 for dust and water protection, with resistance to oil, acid, alkali, and steam—suitable for steel mills, cold and hot rolling areas, raw material yards, finished product warehouses, and other harsh industrial sites.
Application scope. The system is deployed for effective operation guidance, scientific management, and safety assurance in cold rolling, Water Slag Crane Positioning System, hot rolling (raw material, post-rolling, and finished product warehouse areas), ironmaking, steelmaking, and general intelligent warehouse logistics. It supports automatic crane travel, anti-collision interlocks, multi-crane synchronization, and unmanned or semi-unmanned operation.
